When it comes time to move, it's not always the best idea to simply obtain two or three quotes and select the moving company with the cheapest price.  You are hiring complete strangers to come into your home to move your lifelong possessions.

This may include your grandmother's antique table that was left to you, your family's photo albums or your very special wedding gifts from 25 or 50 years ago.  Whatever your most prized possessions may be, they are most likely irreplaceable on a sentimental level. 

This makes it extremely important for you to hire a high quality organization that you can trust to handle your personal belongings as if they were their own.

At Bird's, we are very fortunate to have many employees with more than 20 years employment with our firm, and some have been with us for more than 30 years.  Many times we have received calls from former customers stating they had moved 10, 15 or even 20 years ago and that John, Doug, Harry or Karl had been their van foreman at that time.  They ask if it would be possible to have that same driver move them again.  We love those calls!  Not only that but we can tell these customers that we can accommodate their wishes.  It's interesting to note that when these customers call, they rarely ask about price, only about the availability of their favourite driver.  It's because, with their previous experience with our company, they already know we are competitively priced and our main concern and focus is quality of service.

A quick and easy method of helping you decide upon a moving company is to obtain their quotes first, then simply go for a ride.  Just drive past their local offices and check out their trucks and premises.  This will give you a pretty good idea of the type of company they are, simply by seeing how well they maintain their trucks, warehouse and facility. 

There is a big difference between household moving and general trucking.  Anyone with a truck or van and a couple of buddies can book a moving job, but it takes training, knowledge and experience to properly pack the contents of a home, safely move the belongings to their new location or even into storage, if necessary.

Storage is a big part of the business and in the 15,600 square foot warehouse on Seapark Drive, they can store up to 500,000 pounds of furniture.  Bird's have some things that have been in storage for more than 30 years.  Other shipments might be there for a month or two, while families are waiting to take possession of their new homes.  We can store shipments for a week or decades, and people will know their belongings are being looked after in a clean and secure environment by people properly trained to do the job.  The warehouseman has been with the company for over 35 years.

All storage shipments are packed, blanket-wrapped or plastic-wrapped before being stored in their own individual enclosed pallet.

Bird's Moving and Storage has been a member of United Van Lines for over 50 years and through their central dispatch in Mississauga has approximately half their fleet operating all over North America in the summer months.  United Van Lines is unique as it is the only van line in Canada that is 100% owned by its Canadian agents.

Local moves are normally charged by the hour, and long distance moves by the weight.  To estimate the cost of a move, Bird's has trained and qualified moving consultants available to come to your home and perform a visual survey.  The consultants use hand-held computers to record the contents of your home that you wish to be moved.  Upon returning to the office, the consultants will process the inventory to determine the weight of the shipment.  Once the weight of the goods has been determined, a quote can be composed.
