It's that time of year again! While many of us will spend the next few weeks wrapping, not packing, the winter months allow us time to reflect on how our St. Catharines moving company has helped many families, individuals and businesses safely and securely move their belongings from one location to another. Since 1933, Bird’s Moving has been proud to offer a diverse range of moving and storage services that cater to local and long-distance moves. An while we’ve picked up a few tricks along the way, we’re most thankful for our incredible customers and community members who help make every season special.

So, this month we’re extending you warm wishes for a stress-free holiday season and a happy new year! And, before you depart for your festive dinners and some much-needed relaxation, we want to leave you with a parting gift to help make your December move a little bit sweeter by sharing our top tips for moving around the holidays!

Your Best Move Starts with Trust!

Are you stuck packing up your home instead of decking your halls with winter décor? No matter where you’re moving, or how excited you are to settle in to your new space, navigating a move during the holidays isn’t exactly the most festive way to spend your time off; it’s hard enough finding time for your holiday baking, shopping and gift-wrapping without the stress of a move!

Luckily, your St. Catharines moving company is here to help you transform your stressful relocation into a memorable holiday experience.

1. Check the Forecast

Bird’s Moving offers many services to our clients but, unfortunately, changing the weather is not one of them! The best way to protect yourself against road risks or winter-related delays is to keep an eye on the local weather forecast. This will ensure that you have the proper items to avoid any serious risks or damage associated with blizzards, icy sidewalks and cold temperatures. Make sure that you have all your winter clothes labelled so that they’re easy to find. Prepare shovels and salt for your new home to prevent slips and falls during the move.

2. Have a Packing Plan

It’s tempting to pack now and relax later. But who wants to sit in an empty house days before the move? To help you make some headway and stay organized, create a predetermined a list of which rooms you’ll tackle first, like the basement or spare room. Keeping your essential items (like your decorations!) on display may also make your home feel bright and cheery and will allow you to make consistent progress without making your home too bare over the holidays.

3. Give Back

One of the hallmarks of the holiday season is giving back. And moving from one home to another is a reminder of how fortunate we are to have a roof over our heads during the coldest months of the year. Packing up your home presents a great opportunity to not only start fresh, but also give back to the community. If you’re thinking of getting rid of furniture, clothes, toys, books, canned goods or appliances, consider donating your items to a local organization so that they can find a new home, too.
